Two Thumbs Up

Books I've read lately and loved:

ONCE WAS LOST by Sara Zarr. I love the very real yet subtle exploration of faith in this book. Release day is today, October 1st - go and get yourself a copy!

HUSH HUSH by Becca Fitzpatrick. This was a real page-turner and kept me guessing until the very end.

THE HELP by Kathryn Stockett. I felt like I lived with the characters in this book, which takes place during the civil rights movement. One of my favorite reads of 2009!

BREATHING by Cheryl Herbsman. Sweet, sweet book with great characters, a memorable setting and a voice that you remember long after you close the last page.

What have you read lately that you've loved?

  1. So many (I read like 3 books a week...sometimes more), but in order to keep this comment a manageable length I'll stick with just 2--on total opposite ends of the spectrum.

Forest Born by Shannon Hale: It's the newest edition to her Books of Bayern series. Elegant, magical, sweet...but those are all things you can count on Shannon Hale for. (Wouldn't recommend reading it if you haven't read the rest of the series though, because it'll kind of ruin the others.)

Goth Girl Rising by Barry Lyga: Snarky, edgy, and tackling some deep issues (death, suicide, sexuality). It's definitely a teen book, and some parents might not want their kids reading about those kind of issues, but it's amazing (all his books are) and it's the kind of book that stays with you long after you've finished reading it. It wasn't supposed to come out till Oct. 19, but I pre-ordered it and miraculously it shipped early. I read it in one marathon four hour reading session because I couldn't put it down.
